Xabi Alonso (3/1)

The Bayer Leverkusen coach is widely tipped to become the next Liverpool manager, replacing Jurden Klopp, but the vacancy at the Allianz means Bayern have joined the fray for his signature. A popular figure at Bayern due to his spell there as a player under Pep Guardiola, Alonso will probably win the Bundesliga this season, and Bayern have a habit of poaching rival coaches. We think his odds are way too short, however, as he will be unlikely to be tempted to join the graveyard for coaching talent at Sabenerstrasse.

Hansi Flick (4/1)

The former Germany and Bayern head coach had a remarkable record of success at club level, winning the treble with Bayern. He could not replicate that success with the German national team, however, and was fired in autumn 2023 by the DFB. He is learning Spanish and would love the chance to replace Xavi.

Jose Mourinho (8/1)

The combative Portuguese was recently fired as head coach at Roma, and his recent record is surely too weak to tempt the Bayern board. Moreover, his aggressive style is unlikely to go down well with the top brass in Munich, who must surely be tired of the drama that seems to follow the club. Also, despite his linguistic talents, he does not speak German. We already had Trapattoni mangle the German language 30 years ago, and the Bavarians are unlikely to want a repeat of press conferences about empty bottles. How do you say, “park the bus” in German?

Zinedine Zidane(10/1)

The former Real Madrid man seems to be linked with every top manager’s job, but is known not to like cold climates, and he left Madrid because of the boardroom drama. He doesn’t seem a good fir for FC Hollywood.

Jurgen Klopp (11/1)

The Liverpool legend recently announced his departure from the Reds at the end of the season, sparking interest from several clubs. He has told his agent that he would never manage Bayern, in order not to disappoint his fans in Dortmund. But we think this is just fluff, and that he will end up in Munich.
