Euro 2024 Group A Preview and Odds

Germany (to win Euro 2024: 7.00, to win group: 1.4, to qualify from group 1.05)

The hosts are in as easy a group as they could reasonably expect and will be hoping to build momentum to go deep into the competition, just as they did when hosting the World Cup in 2006. The current batch is surely the weakest in living memory, with only Josh Kimmich and Ter Stegen playing for a top European club. Good enough value to win the group and the Germans do tend to make the final in the end. Would be a huge surprise if they won it, and we don’t expect to be surprised.

Scotland (to win Euro 2024:, to win group 81.00: 9.0, to qualify from group 1.72)

Serial group stage chokers Scotland have never qualified for the second round in World Cup or Euros history. The last time they even qualified for a major tournament was 1998, however, so the traumas of Argentina ‘78 and Mexico ‘86 are not on the consciousnesses of the current crop of players. They qualified smartly too, from a tough group including Spain and Norway. They have no chance of winning the whole tournament and are unlikely to win the group, but they look good value for qualifying from the group, where even the third-placed team will probably make it.

Switzerland (to win Euro 2024: 67.00, to win group: 6.5, to qualify from group 1.53)

The Swiss have established themselves as solid performers in recent tournaments, and expectations are high in the Alps that their current batch will perform well in Germany. Backed by their cowbell-ringing fans who are likely to pack every stadium, Xhaka and co. will surely get out of the group and will be a handful for any team. They are our dark horse to win the whole thing.

Hungary (to win Euro 2024: 81.00, to win group: 7.5, to qualify from group 1.66)

The Magyars enjoyed a successful Euro 2020, mostly thanks to playing in Budapest and their raucous fans, taking the French and Portuguese to the wire. They can’t rely on home support this time, however, and place too much focus on Szoboszlai.We don’t think they will get out of the group.
